All of the flowers on this costume were hand made using silk habotai. Each petal was cut, dyed and shaped individually with the larger flower each having 25 petals!
The silks in the skirt were also dyed by hand to produce the gradients seen in the costume.

I stiffened the silk with a mixture of arrowroot (startch), PVA glue and Water. This was all heated up in a pan and left to cool before painting on. The stiffened silk has the texture of thin flower petals and doesn't fray when you cut the pieces out. ^_^
wow. that is simply beautiful and amazing. all the work put into that dying certainly paid off! But, would you mind also telling me how you did the top part of your gloves? I can't tell what they're made out of nor how you made it (and the lining) join so seamlessly
